Zamfara Clerics Reported Abduction: APC supporters in disarray over bandits informants presence in Senator Yari's resident.

 

The reported abduction of Islamic clerics who attended a prayer gathering hosted by former Zamfara State Governor and Director-General of the Tinubu 2027 Presidential Campaign, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, has renewed concerns over the persistent security challenges facing the state.

The clerics were reportedly abducted after attending the gathering at Yari’s residence in Talata Mafara on Saturday, September 12, where thousands of Islamic scholars and clerics reportedly gathered to pray for peace, an end to insecurity and the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

The reported incident has attracted attention because it occurred shortly after a major gathering centred on prayers for peace and security in a state that has continued to battle banditry and kidnapping.

While the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction remain unclear, reports indicate that the affected clerics were travelling away from the gathering when they were reportedly intercepted by armed men.

The development has also placed renewed attention on the security situation in Zamfara and the responsibilities facing the state’s political leadership, particularly as Yari assumes a prominent national role in the 2027 presidential campaign.

However, there is currently no indication that Senator Yari or the organisers of the gathering were responsible for the reported incident. The abduction, if confirmed, would instead underscore the continuing difficulty of confronting criminal networks operating across parts of the state.

Security agencies are expected to establish the circumstances of the incident and provide clarification on the number and identities of those reportedly abducted.

The incident also comes at a politically significant period, with Zamfara emerging as an important battleground ahead of the 2027 elections and Yari, Governor Dauda Lawal and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, all playing prominent roles in the state’s evolving political landscape.

For many residents, however, the latest development goes beyond politics, highlighting once again the urgent need for sustained security measures capable of protecting communities, religious leaders and ordinary citizens across Zamfara.
